An American Aussie's Imaginarium

I am a voracious reader, and this is my blog dedicated to my book pursuits. Due to working full-time and studying, I do not have as much time as I'd like to spend on reading and blogging, but I try!

My favourite genres include: science fiction and fantasy, paranormal, romance, distopia, certain non-fictions, horrors and all inclusive sub-genres.

The Wolf Gift

The Wolf Gift - Anne Rice Well, I have started off 2014 with a bang, folks!

This is the first book I have ever labelled as Did Not Finish (DNF). I got about 52%, and I couldn't take the humming on and on about the religious consequences of Reuben's "gift." It was just too much for me.

Full review to come... and I read a synopsis for the rest of the book - apparently nothing else really happens, so I'm glad I didn't waste any more time reading it.

Reading progress update: I've read 42%.

The Wolf Gift: The Wolf Gift Chronicles (The Wolf Gift Chronicles ,#1) - Anne Rice

I'm still really not sure about this. I find the prose... unconnected and disjointed like I'm reading an amateur's story. It's very strange though because at the same time, I don't mind the reading too much. I wouldn't say I am enjoying the book though.

Is it a good thing I'm nearly half way through and still unsure if I like the book?

How Silly...

The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien, Alan Lee

Gary and I had a run of watching all three Lord of the Rings movies and the first Hobbit movies over a weekend... ending with a trip to the cinemas to watch the second Hobbit movie. As such, my mind just naturally had to start reading the novel... so here I am!

I may regret this yet...

The Wolf Gift: The Wolf Gift Chronicles (The Wolf Gift Chronicles ,#1) - Anne Rice

@ 18% - I am not entirely sold on this book yet. I used to love Anne Rice as a teenager but... I swear I've changed. Between reading Hamilton last month and Rice this month - maybe I should just stick to unexplored authors from now on.

Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead - Sheryl Sandberg

This book is really great. I have so many thoughts so over the next week, I am going to re-read this book and accumulate my thoughts into a big blog post.

Guilty Pleasures - Laurell K. Hamilton

I read this book back in high school around the age of 16, and I can remember loving it (which led me to read the next 10 or so books around the same time - however, I had to give up in Narcissus in Chains because well... if you've read it, you know).

I re-read it this time around for the Vaginal Fantasy Bookclub, and I don't know what my 16 year old self was thinking. This book really isn't very well written... and the plot isn't very good either.

I am still mortified about Caroline (Christine? I forget her name...) and how she loses control over her life. It seems like something that is just brushed over, but it felt crushing to me. How horrible :(

Steelheart - Brandon Sanderson

This book was so fucking amazing! Like seriously... if you like fantasy and good story lines, pick up one of Sanderson's books. You can't go wrong.

Wrecking Ball Chat Roulette

This is so fucking funny. I am just fascinated by the people's reactions!

Reading progress update: I've read 34%

Guilty Pleasures - Laurell K. Hamilton

I'm 34% done with Guilty Pleasures: This isn't as good as I remember... I read this back in high school, and I remember loving the shit out of it. Being nearly half way through the book, I am finding that I am really uncomfortable with the lack of control Anita has over the stuff happening to her and by that I mean that there is no reason for Anita to be sexually attracted to Jean Claude. In fact, reading this makes me feel a little bit disgusted...

A Magical Book

The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern

This was such a fantastic read.

I never would have picked up this book if it weren't for a bookclub I participate in, but I am so glad that November's read was this book.

What I liked most about the book was Morgenstern's descriptive writing. The images I have of the circus in my head are beautiful... Years from now I'll probably forget about everything to do with this book excluding those wonderful images of the night circus.

So different and beautiful.

70% in...

The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern

The only reason why I started this book was because one of my bookclubs selected it as a November read. I wouldn't have picked it up any other way, and honestly the reason why is because I thought this book was that movie with Reese Witherspoon, and I detest those types of movies.

I have since learned I was mistaken because that movie is based off of Water for Elephants.

This book is much different, and it is really, really good...
